Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner!
Ingredients:
For the Stir Fry:
1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
2 large onions, sliced
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp vegetable oil (or sesame oil)
1 tbsp ginger, minced (optional)
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 cup beef broth (or water)
1 tbsp sugar (to balance flavors)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Marinate the Beef:
In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt.
Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes while preparing the other ingredients.
2. Prepare the Sauce:
In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, sugar, and pepper. Set aside.
3. Stir Fry the Beef:
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
Add the marinated beef and stir fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.
Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
4. Cook the Onions and Garlic:
In the same skillet, add the remaining oil.
Add sliced onions and cook for about 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.
If using, add ginger and garlic, and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
5. Combine and Finish:
Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the sauce mixture.
Stir everything together and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and the beef is heated through.
6. Serve:
Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Helpful Tips:
Add vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, or snap peas for extra flavor and nutrition.
For a spicy kick, add chili peppers or a splash of chili sauce to the stir fry.
