A fun and delicious twist on traditional pizza, this Pepperoni Pizza Layer Cake is made up of multiple layers of pizza goodness, perfect for pizza lovers looking to try something new!
Ingredients
For the Pizza Dough:
1 tablespoon sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
For the Pizza Layers:
1 1/2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 cups sliced pepperoni (or more, to taste)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Directions
Make the Pizza Dough:
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir to dissolve and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes foamy.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, olive oil, salt, and garlic powder. Add the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until it’s smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Pizza Layers:
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion into a thin circle about 8-10 inches in diameter.
Place the dough circles on separate baking sheets or pizza stones, and bake them for 7-10 minutes, until golden and slightly crispy.
Assemble the Layer Cake:
Once the pizza dough layers have cooled slightly, start layering the pizza “cake.”
Place one pizza layer on a large serving platter or cake stand. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over the top, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and top with a generous amount of pepperoni.
Add the next pizza layer on top and repeat the process (sauce, cheese, pepperoni) until all the layers are stacked.
For the top layer, sprinkle extra mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese over the top and place a few more pepperoni slices for garnish.
Finish and Serve:
Optionally, bake the stacked pizza cake for 5-10 minutes at 400°F (200°C) to melt the top layer of cheese and make it bubbly.
Let the pizza cake rest for a few minutes before slicing into it like a traditional cake.
Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a touch of freshness and color.
