Things needed:
3/4 cup of butter
1/4 cup of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of sugar
– Thinly slice four big yellow onions.
3/4 teaspoon of dried thyme 6 cups of beef broth
Adjust with salt and pepper, if desired.
1 ring of sliced baguette
Two cups of Gruyère cheese, or Swiss cheese, grated
What to do:
While the olive oil and butter are melting in a big saucepan, set the heat to medium. Toss in the sugar and chopped onions. Once the onions begin to soften and get a golden brown color, cook for another 25-30 minutes, stirring often.
